Techno-economic analysis of a PV system with a battery energy storage system for small households: A case study in Rwanda

Due to the inadequacy of distribution networks in developing countries, especially small residential areas, there are frequent interruptions electrical energy provided by grid. This problem negatively affects life quality and productivity people living these regions. can be overcome integrating BESS-supported renewable sources into system. These distributed resources contribute significantly providing directly consumers. On a scale, such system is supported grid, when possible, ensure supply continuity. study presents techno-economic analysis, using PV*SOL simulation software, grid-connected solar PV with BESS that used community Rwanda, Muhanga district, Shyogwe sector. The consumers were group one hundred households around wetland valley. generated from was home appliances water pumping for agricultural activities. results showed annual requirement 82.34 MWh peak load 30.4 kW. also revealed system, an installed capacity 57.33 kWp integrated 89.2 kWh storage capacity, own power consumption 68.65%, level self-sufficiency 64.38%, performance ratio 86.05% desired set 110% year as reference period. financial analysis demonstrated return on assets 9.14% amortization period 9.65 years. indicate proposed method technically economically feasible use addressing issue outages countries.
